Yandoit
Central Victoria
A garden at Yandoit in central Victoria, halfway between Bendigo and Ballarat. Tim Pilgrim calls it one of his first and favourites, made to settle the original miners cottage into what he describes as Tuscan like surrounds of rolling hills, vineyards and olive groves.
The site gets hot dry summers, freezing winters, heavy ex mining soils, frost and wind, so the planting is built to take it: a cloud pruned teucrium hedge marks the boundary from the fields and echoes the huge skies, a border of tall meadow flowers and grasses secludes the entertaining area, and native planting settles a newly added guest house beside a natural pool by Bells Water Gardens elsewhere on the property. Tim Pilgrim Gardens
Tim Pilgrim is a garden designer working from his studio in Central Victoria, formally trained in horticulture, with more than fifteen years in gardens including time at the Garden of St Erth, Sefton and Stonefields. His book Wild by Design won Illustrated Non-Fiction at the 2026 Indie Book Awards.
