Walderlebniszentrum Leupoldishain
Leupoldishain, Königstein
A forest education building for Sachsenforst, Saxony's state forestry enterprise, and the surrounding Saxon Switzerland national park region, at the edge of the village of Leupoldishain. The name means Forest Experience Centre, and this building is the centre's event and teaching space, used above all by school classes. It was completed in autumn 2024 on the spot where its dilapidated predecessor stood, about 130 square metres for around one million euros, with the old building's paving stones and kitchen furniture reused.
The frame is a timber skeleton of unglued solid larch, its 13 metre rafters cut from trunks checked for straight growth, all of it grown in Sachsenforst's own Neustadt holdings and milled in local sawmills. Glued panels were largely avoided so the parts can one day come apart as single materials, the interior is lined entirely in larch boards, and the fittings carry Sachsenforst's green and yellow, drawn from the Le Corbusier colour palette. The Deutsches Architekturmuseum shortlisted it for the DAM Preis 2026.
Frida Architekten
Frida Architekten is a Dresden practice founded in 2020 by Tobias Maisch and partners. Maisch trained at Hochschule Augsburg and TU Dresden, chairs Bauforum Dresden, and has headed the architecture course at IU Internationale Hochschule as a professor since 2023.
