Tisvilde
Tibirke, Denmark
Tisvilde is Vermland's name for the kitchen and wardrobes it made for a renovated 1960s summer house at Tibirke, in North Zealand on Denmark's north coast. The house was bought by a couple of biologists and pulled back into one plan by the architect Robert Örn Arnarson of STAKA arkitektur, who files it under Tibirke and heads its page Naturens ånd, the spirit of nature. It had gained an annexe in the 1990s and an extension in 2008, and he describes the task as gathering it into one natural whole where plan, materials and rooms play together. The owners asked for the facades to be opened so that the plants and wildlife could be watched in full panorama; the roof still carries its original thatch, the facades are pine, and inside everything is oak and limestone.
The kitchen is a freestanding piece, an oak island with a curved tambour front of slats standing on slim brass feet, a stone top and a tap in patinated brass, made in a family-owned workshop in Jutland, and the fluted grey stone at the right edge is the house's custom-built fireplace. Vermland's co-founder Anton Bak says the vision was an interior in harmony with the house's architecture and the nature around it, and the company's own line on the job is "Warm, natural oiled oak kitchen and wardrobes in the beautiful summer house by architect Robert Ørn on the north coast of Denmark."

Vermland is a Copenhagen kitchen maker founded by the cabinetmakers Joakim Tolf Vulpius and Anton Bak and registered as a company in 2016; its kitchens are made in Denmark and delivered worldwide.
