Arthurs Seat
Ann-Maree and Paul Winter's garden at Arthurs Seat on the Mornington Peninsula, made by its owners on the seven acres they bought in 2015, and opened to the public on set weekends through Open Gardens Victoria, under the name The Winter Garden. Gravel paths and weathering steel steps cross the slope, linking three circular lawns.
Her planting groups warm colours and cool colours area by area, transitioning through the spectrum rather than mixing it, as she puts it. The picture is her own post from a summer evening, bee balm, yarrow, sunflowers and daisies deep around the gravel path.
Ann-Maree Winter goes by Annie and is the garden's owner and maker rather than a designer by trade; the gardener Julie Willis worked beside her a day a week in the early years, which Winter has called her apprenticeship. She publishes no website. The garden's record is her Instagram, and its open days run through Open Gardens Victoria.
