A vector illustration of a swimmer descending underwater, the sunlit surface glowing peach above.

Summer Memories

The peach glow above the swimmer is not sky but the underside of the water's surface, lit by the low sun and ringed by the ripples of the dive; the whole picture sits underwater. Stella Caraman drew it as one of the three illustrations she calls Summer Memories, out of a summer of weekly trips with her partner to Lake Tarnița, a lake between mountains close to Cluj-Napoca in Romania, watching the sunset and practising their jumps into the cold water.

Her line for this one: "I wish I could breathe underwater". She drew it in Adobe Illustrator with a Wacom tablet in 2018.
