Sorrento House
Sorrento
A new single storey house in Sorrento on the Mornington Peninsula for a family of five, 313 square metres, set one metre into the ground so its roofline sits close to the neighbours' despite a brief for a generous home. The walls are recycled brick under a sand and cement render that gives a pale, chalky finish echoing the local limestone, with blackbutt shiplap outside and a corrugated roof, and the whole took sixteen months including six of design.
Alto Landscape made two different outdoor conditions: a communal garden at the rear, and an inward front courtyard off the main bedroom, enclosed by curved rendered walls and densely planted with coastal species, with layered planting softening the building's edges. Lamerton Build built it, and The Local Project published it.
