A sideboard in teak, the maker's whole caption for it, standing beneath the floating stair of his own house in Lak Si, Bangkok. Charnon Nakornsang built the 55 square metre home showroom onto the back of his family's thirty year old house, driving new piles and raising the floor because the site had flooded; the herringbone floor is laid from offcuts, and the stair carries no fall rail, only small timber pieces fixed at the treads as a guide.

Wherever there is timber in the room, all of it is his hand: tables, chairs, cabinets, lamps, the stairs and the screens. The framed drawings on the walls are by his wife and daughter, cropped, rearranged and framed by him, and the only ornaments he keeps are stones, leaves and plants.

Nakornsang Studio

Nakornsang Studio is the home workshop of Charnon Nakornsang in Lak Si, Bangkok, a graphic designer of ten years who turned to furniture through Nakashima, Krenov and Esherick, made his first piece in 2013 and went full time in 2020. He makes custom furniture to order, runs private fine woodworking workshops, and began building the house and showroom the work is photographed in back in 2018.
