Seven Drinks Cabinet

The Seven Drinks Cabinet was designed and made by Simon Ancher for Stillwater Seven, seven boutique rooms that Cumulus Studio built in 2019 into the upper floors of an 1830s Launceston flour mill that had survived a fire; charred timber from the blaze was kept in the fit out. Each room got one of a kind furniture in Tasmanian timber, and Stillwater calls these its bespoke blackwood pantries.

The doors in the photograph are closed on the point of the piece: behind them sit a lit bar with bottles and glassware, a stone counter, drawers and a fridge, the room's pantry and mini bar in one cabinet. The studio now sells a commercial version of the design. Jonno Rodd photographed it.

Simon Ancher Studio

Simon Ancher Studio is the furniture practice of Simon Ancher in Invermay, Launceston, designed and made in Tasmania, in the words of its own account. Ancher studied furniture design in 2000 and practised from the Designer Makers Cooperative in North Hobart before moving north; the studio does one off commissions, interior fit outs, public art and seating.
