Schul- und Sportanlage Bubikon

Bubikon, Switzerland

The picture is a render, not a photograph. This is the winning design from a two stage competition the municipality of Bubikon, in the canton of Zurich, ran for a new school and sports complex on a sloping site: three new buildings, a primary school with kindergarten, a triple sports hall, and a single sports hall with a 25 metre school pool, plus care, therapy and music rooms, with the heritage listed Schulhaus Spycherwis kept and worked into the group. Eight teams were commissioned from 25 applications, and in June 2025 the panel recommended the WALDRAP led team unanimously, praising its regional, natural building materials, timber among them.

As of August 2026 the scheme is at design stage: Bubikon's town meeting approved a 4.36 million franc design credit in December 2025, and the council brought in client side project support in January 2026. The landscape is by Krebs und Herde, and the images are by ZUEND, a visualisation studio in Zurich.
