R-38 Radio
R-38 Radio is a concept for a pocket radio by Carl Hauser, drawn for himself like the rest of his side projects and never built: a slim brushed metal body with a slotted speaker grille across the top, a screen with a frequency scale tuned to 549 kHz and NHK R1, two tapered knobs for frequency and volume, and a bent wire handle pivoting on the side. His own footer bar on the render dates it May 2023; the via post of August 2023 calls it a radio concept, and his own site lists it as R 38 among a dozen such objects, though no page for it was ever built and no words of his about it are published anywhere that could be loaded. His other radio, the S-4, unfolds; this one does not, and it carries its own printed name.
The card is the first of the post's two frames: two of the grey bodies floating against a pale ground, the front one tilted to show the slotted grille, the screen with its red tuning marker, the R-38 lettering and the two white tapered knobs, the one behind turned to show its wire handle, a large dark disc set into its back, and a USB-C port and a jack along the edge.
Carl Hauser
Carl Hauser is the working name of Sebastian Stapelfeldt, a designer from Germany based in Tokyo and Head of Design at Analogue, whose own site is, in his words, a playground for the things he explores outside that work. His L1 phone is also in this library.
