Pfalz, Germany
A sloping garden in the Pfalz, the warm, dry south west corner of Germany, planted by the practice in April 2023 on twenty centimetres of screed sand over heavy clay as a mix of perennial meadow and drifts, with many more summer flowering bulbs added in early summer. The practice posted the picture in August 2024, one of my favourite gardens right now, the caption says. The caption claims the planting only; nothing published says who made the deck, the long steel sided basin set into the slope, or the paths.
Grasses and perennials run up the slope over the pale sand, the basin catches the sky, and two wire chairs, one yellow and one red, sit on the timber boards in the foreground. The garden has no published name and its town is not given.
Gartengestaltung Hegmann
Gartengestaltung Hegmann is Joachim Hegmann's garden design practice at Limburgerhof in the Vorderpfalz, in south west Germany. A chemist by training who worked twenty five years in the chemical industry, Hegmann designed private and public gardens alongside that career before turning to it full time in 2015, and co-wrote Wilde Wiesen gestalten (2021) with Katrin Lugerbauer, a guide to planting wild meadows.
