A marquetry wall panel by the London artist Olly Fathers, overlapping circles and blocks laid into bare pale grain. The colour is not paint: his panels are built from intricately cut wood veneers, birch and dyed tulip in hardwood frames, and the grain runs unbroken through the coloured shapes, one disc changing from tan to red exactly where it crosses into the coral block.
In the last frame of its source post the panel hangs top right in a group of six related panels on one wall, a family of its own.
Olly Fathers
Olly Fathers is a British artist, born in 1987, who studied fine art painting at Wimbledon College of Art and began integrating woodwork into his practice in 2019. He works from a studio in Brixton, London, cutting dyed veneers into abstract compositions using self taught marquetry techniques.
