Gold Coast

A new house on the Gold Coast, in Benowa by Dwell's own tag, built for Luke MacDonald and Bec Vayonitis by two old friends of his, the architect Greg Clarke and the builder Tye Christensen of TCC Homes. The couple paid more than they meant to for the vacant lot, so the build was phased: a boxlike nucleus of kitchen, living area and bedrooms first, then the main suite, the pool and a self contained unit as funds allowed, about 278 square metres in all.

The green is paint, a soothing leaf green that took Bec fifteen samples to settle on. The Australian Institute of Architects commended the house in its 2026 Queensland Architecture Awards, in the category for new houses, where it is entered under the architect's name for it, Macdonald House.
