Los Angeles Residence

Hollywood Hills, Los Angeles

A house in the Hollywood Hills above the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles, the home of Osklo's own co-founders, Arya and Michael Martin, three years in the making from first concept to finished construction and finished by late 2023. The plan is built around a central atrium open to the sky, which brings light and air into the middle of the house and doubles as a gallery for the owners' Japanese pottery and bronze statues. The picture looks across that atrium, pale stone pavers laid through low groundcover with a flat boulder and broad leaved planting, to the kitchen's marble island and timber stools through the open corner.

Hinoki inspired timber panelling, a soaking tub and an outdoor shower carry the house's East meets West idea, and the kitchen island is Calacatta Paonazzo marble. Beyond the atrium, Joel Galarza's landscape takes in a pool terrace set against an exposed rock face and a travertine outdoor fireplace with a stone dining table under mature trees. The Local Project published the house as Los Angeles Residence, the name used here; Osklo lists it on its own site as Robin.
