Redcliffe
A new house in Redcliffe, on the Brisbane bayside, replacing an old cottage a couple of hundred metres from the shore. It is a contemporary take on the two-storey Queenslander: a raised bedroom pavilion and an entertainment pavilion joined by a small entry, clad in pale timber battens, with north-facing outdoor living behind. The round front door, about 400 kilograms turning on a central pivot, started life as a joke on the drawings, a placeholder the owners grew so used to that they kept it.
Inside, the circle returns in round skylights and a scalloped ceiling, and the rooms are lined with more than 580 square metres of Queensland walnut veneer cut from a single tree. The house was photographed by Clinton Weaver, and as of August 2026 it stands shortlisted in the Houses Awards, with winners due in September.
