A narrow garden against the bare concrete of a new house in Kochi City, planted in spring 2023 by 浦田庭園設計事務所, the Fukuoka garden design practice posting as @urata_tree. The house, finished the same year, is by the Kochi architects 小松建築設計室, whose name for it is 新屋敷の住宅.
The picture is the landscaper's own return visit that November, the maples just beginning to colour and the planting settled into the streetscape after a hard summer, as his caption has it. His stated idea is a garden where the house takes nature in and nature encloses the house.
浦田庭園設計事務所 (Urata garden design office)
Urata garden design office is the practice of 浦田知裕, opened in Fukuoka in 2015, based at Dazaifu and working anywhere in Japan. Its stated concept is the garden as a recreation of the coexistence of nature and people, the way terraced ricefields and satoyama are.
