Kelvin Play Pro
Kelvin Play Pro is a pocket sized LED panel light for film and photography, designed by Minoko Design for the Norwegian brand Kelvin and made in Norway: a sealed aluminium body, a full colour light engine that runs, by the panel's own printing, from 2000 to 20000 kelvin, two dials and a small screen on the back for setting it, an app over Bluetooth and, on the Pro, wireless DMX control. Minoko's brief ran from industrial design and the interface to packaging and marketing material across 2023 and 2024, and it says that with the Play, Kelvin was first in the world with a full colour LED lamp of pocket size, carrying on the look of the Epos 300 spotlight it had drawn for the same brand. In Kelvin's own words: "Of course, our aluminium housing exceeds structural requirements, conducts heat better away from the light, and it is stronger than creaky plastic."
The card is the first frame of the via post: the sand coloured panel seen from the back at an angle against a warm off-white ground, its two stacked dials at one end beside the screen reading Play Pro with the colour temperature, tint and intensity below, three round buttons under that, the Kelvin wordmark and the panel's printed specifications across the back, and a screw at each corner.
Minoko Design
Minoko Design is an industrial design and product development consultancy working from Levanger, its head office, and Oslo in Norway, established in 2002 and under its present name since 2011, which has partnered Rift Labs, now Kelvin, on design and product development since 2015; the Play carries over, in its words, the product aesthetic of its earlier Epos 300 light for the same brand.
Kelvin
Kelvin is a Norwegian cinema lighting brand developing lights since 2010, in its own words, with an office in Oslo and another in Berlin; the company traded as Rift Labs until 2025, which is why the designer's page credits Kelvin and Rift Labs.
