Kamoshiya
Shizuoka, Japan
Kamoshiya is a house with a cooking school inside it, 37 metres deep on a street of machiya, the traditional townhouses, in Shizuoka. The cooking school takes the north side of the building and the home the south, and an earthen floor along the east side joins them, a buffer between the two where light falls from a top light and the wind passes through.
It appeared in the December 2019 issue of Jutakutokushu, a Japanese housing journal, and a 2024 Shokokusha book that reads houses through their roofs files it in a section on setting up a shop front under the roof.
