House of Wall Pillars
Fuefuki, Japan
A house in Fuefuki, Yamanashi Prefecture, completed in 2022 and named for the way it stands up: four wall-like pillars inside the house do all the load-bearing work in the short direction of the plan, so no other internal walls are needed. Those four walls loosely divide daily life, and the whole house becomes one large room.
Under the high ceiling sit an earth floored area with a wood stove on it, and a kitchen and bathroom built specially for the house. The picture was taken by Koichi Torimura, who has photographed several of this practice's buildings.
Takanori Ineyama Architects
The practice of Takanori Ineyama, born in Yamanashi in 1982, who founded his studio in 2014 after five years at ON design. Six architects work across houses, renovations, commercial and institutional projects from offices in Kofu and Zushi.
