Slovenia
A house in the hills of Slovenia, finished in 2023, made of two long gabled volumes that cross at an open angle. It turns a closed back to the street and opens its glazed living rooms and stepped terrace to the landscape instead. One skin of timber battens wraps the walls and carries straight over the roofs, which is why the whole form reads dark from the air.
Inside, white walls and polished floors are kept deliberately plain so the crossing of the roofs overhead does the work, and every room looks out to the landscape. The house measures 245 square metres and was shaped to sit with an existing group of buildings beside it. The aerial picture was taken by Christian Brandstätter, an architectural photographer in Klagenfurt, Austria.
Delugan Meissl
Delugan Meissl Associated Architects, an international practice in Vienna founded in 1993 by Elke Delugan-Meissl and Roman Delugan. Its buildings include the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart and the EYE Filmmuseum in Amsterdam, with work running across cultural, residential and high-rise projects.
