Hood House

Carlton North, Melbourne

A renovation and second-storey addition to a single-fronted terrace. The original rooms were opened up, with skylights pulling daylight into the living spaces, and the new upper floor sits under an undulating white Colorbond roofline. The house takes its name from the hood at the rear, a perforated steel screen that controls overlooking, shade and ventilation.

The palette is Australian hardwood and white surfaces with brass accents, and the window frames and doors are Victorian ash. Shortlisted in two categories at the 2022 Houses Awards.
