Yuumei is Wenqing Yan, a Chinese American artist born in 1990 who grew up in China, moved to America at nine and studied at UC Berkeley. She works full time as an illustrator and graphic novelist, co-founded the headphone maker Axent Wear, and has drawn for an audience most of her life: her DeviantArt page is more than twenty years old with nearly four hundred thousand watchers, and nine hundred thousand follow her on Instagram.
