Eltham
The revived garden of an Alistair Knox designed house at Eltham, in Melbourne's outer north east. Miniscape Projects designed it with Macro Micro Garden Design, working back to the bush garden language of Knox and Gordon Ford: reclaimed red bricks, recycled redwood sleepers, gravel, granitic sand and honey granite boulders across a sloping block of more than a thousand square metres.
The original garden had fallen into disrepair, and the owners, more than ten years in the house, asked for a contemporary bush garden to draw native wildlife, engage their children and grow food. The concrete bath beneath the gum, open sky above, is the owners' favourite feature. Greener built the landscape, and Elsa Campbell photographed it for The Design Files, which published the story in February 2026.
Miniscape Projects
Miniscape Projects is Clea Cregan's landscape design studio in Merri-bek, in Melbourne's north, working on small, compact and often tricky gardens. Cregan began with terrariums as a hobby while working in film production, wrote the book Miniscapes, then studied garden design before starting the studio.
