Drowned Thoughts is a page from the 2017 sketchbook of Hieu Nguyen, who paints as kelogsloops. He made it revisiting the techniques of his older watercolours and folding his digital style into the paint; the white speckling across the dark ground is calligraphy ink, and the fine hairs drawn over the washes are coloured pencil.
The painting stands upright and runs on past this tilted frame, down to bare shoulders dissolving into the wash. He filmed the making of it as a timelapse for his own channel.
kelogsloops is Hieu Nguyen, an Australian artist from Melbourne painting watercolour portraits of women drawn from surreal and fantasy styles. He began digital painting in 2009 with his first Wacom tablet, took up watercolour in his final years of high school, and paints under the motto "be right back, chasing dreams"; 1.4 million people follow him on Instagram.
