COVACO+

COVACO+ is a new single-storey house on a hillside plot in Toyota, in Aichi Prefecture, completed in February 2024 for a family of three. Eight Design built it on the COVACO catalogue model from BinO and reworked it around the family. Neighbouring houses sit close on the south side, so the main daylight windows went on the east, where the outlook is. The plan gained large entrance storage, a kitchen you can walk around and a children's room that can be divided in two later. It is timber framed, with 91.92 square metres of floor on a 307 square metre site, and was built in five and a half months.
The card shows the entrance hall. The wide floor at door level doubles as storage; to one side is an alcove with shelves and hanging coats, shoes sit on the lower step, and a small hand basin stands under a two-pane patterned glass internal window. Eight Design chose the patterned glass, antique doors and tiles for a couple who love vintage things. Its caption for this photograph reads 「型ガラスの室内窓から柔らかい光が入り、抜け感のある玄関ホールに。」, and its own English for the same picture is: Soft light streams in through the patterned glass interior windows, creating an airy atmosphere in the entrance hall.
Eight Design
Eight Design is a Nagoya design practice set up in January 2010, working across housing renovation, shop and office design, town-making and new custom houses. Its new-build arm, EIGHT HOUSE, started in September 2015, and it opened a Toyota office in September 2022. At June 2026 it had 51 staff, five of them first-class registered architects.
