CLT House
Mornington Peninsula
Every pale surface in the room is the structure itself: the house was designed from the outset in cross laminated timber and the panels are left exposed, down to the engineers' screw fixings. This is the library and office on the new top floor, added over a 1970s single-storey house on a working Mornington Peninsula farm and finished in 2019.
FMD Architects reworked the old house as the base and let the new floor span the established gardens, under a saw-tooth roof clad in charcoal Colorbond with solar panels banked into its folds. It is a multigenerational family home, and in 2020 it was shortlisted at both the Australian Interior Design Awards and the Houses Awards.
FMD Architects
FMD Architects is an architecture practice founded by Fiona Dunin in 2005, based in Melbourne and Tasmania. On this house it worked with the mass timber engineers at Vistek and the timber company Stora Enso.
