Seoul
Chair 07 is a dining armchair by the Seoul furniture studio Standard.a, its backrest a sheet of vegetable tanned leather, its curves shaped with the help of 5 axis CNC machining, offered in five woods. It measures 545 millimetres wide, 470 deep and 750 high, the seat at 430; an armless version is sold separately under the same number.
The photograph was taken by Kim Heesun for instalment 011 of the maker's dialogue series, in which the studio interviews a person who lives with the furniture rather than describing it itself. She is the interviewee as well as the photographer: founder of the Seoul shops TWL and Handle with Care and creative director of the design studio fnt, photographing the chair in November 2023.
Standard.a is a wood furniture design studio begun in Seoul in 2011, led by director and carpenter Ryu Yunha, with showrooms in Seogyo in Mapo-gu and in Pangyo in Seongnam. Its chairs are numbered rather than named and built in a handful of woods, oak, cherry and walnut among them.
