CABANA SOLENA MATA

Flores da Cunha, RS

Cabana Solena Mata is a cabin for two you can book, one of a pair on six forested hectares outside Flores da Cunha in Brazil's Serra Gaúcha, ten minutes from town with the last kilometre and a half on dirt road. The bedroom is up on the mezzanine, over the kitchen and bathroom, reached by a Santos Dumont staircase, and a strip of glass skylight runs the whole length of the roof.

The cabin is a single half-gabled volume from 2024, carried on a metal frame that touches the ground at just a few points, rock wool and OSB hidden behind the timber lining. Every piece of furniture was designed and made for the site: the armchairs, the stair, the kitchen, and the wood-fired hot tub on the deck outside.

Desterro Arquitetos

Desterro Arquitetos is an architecture and urbanism office in Florianópolis, southern Brazil, with ten years of projects behind it. Six architects work there; Felipe Cemin Finger led this cabin, with Arthur Lins, Vitor Sadowski and David Sadowski on the design team.
