Ca na Catalina
Campos, Mallorca, Spain
The pale block walls are marés, Mallorca's own limestone, doing the load-bearing work and left bare as the interior finish. The house takes its shape from the vaqueria, the long single-storey dairy shed of the island's farms: one low run of rooms with a steady rhythm of openings, set down to leave as much of its Campos farmland free as possible.
Ca na Catalina carries its client's name, and much of it was made close by: cork insulation under the roof, recycled cotton in the walls, and lime plaster and glazed clay tiles produced fifteen kilometres from the site. It was finished in 2023.
