Brooklyn Heights Townhouse

Brooklyn Heights, New York

The wet room belongs to the Merz House, a 1960s modernist townhouse in Brooklyn Heights that its architects, the husband and wife Joseph and Mary Merz, built and lived in. It stands in the neighbourhood's landmarked historic district, one of three lots the pair redeveloped on their street.

Starling Architecture gut renovated the whole house in eight months; before the work it had been divided into flats and an architecture studio. Outside it is concrete block and redwood, the new joinery inside is rotary-cut birch over quarry tile floors, and the garden was remade around a central courtyard, finished in 2023.
