Birch Pavilion

An eighteen and a half square metre garden room in Stoke Newington, London, built in 2024 as a workspace and music room at the end of a long garden, past the greenhouse and flower beds the picture looks along. The clients asked for shelves for a CD collection, a desk, and a tea station tucked in a cupboard, and the ceiling is lined in cork for listening.
The curve came from the rules: setting the room back from the boundary wall, to stay clear of party wall agreements, narrowed the space and gave the end its curved face and south-facing openings. A height cap pushed the fan of timber beams indoors, where they line up with the three birch trees the room was built to keep, and the cladding is green zinc, chosen to sit quietly in the garden.
N4 Architecture
A London practice founded in 2021 by architect Claudia Rosa-Cervello, who trained at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia. The practice is RIBA chartered and carries projects from planning through to construction.
