Bent garden
Northcote
A whole property garden for an Edwardian house on Bent Street in Northcote, designed by Tim Pilgrim in 2025 as part of a whole home renovation and planted that May: nature strip, front and back, on a 372 square metre block, nearly a third of it Australian natives, replacing a tired garden laid out about fifteen years before. The front is framed by silver leaved mountain gum and tussock grass either side of a red brick path, behind a woven wire fence.
The owners, Andrew and Rose, have lived in the house since 2004 and gave the garden its own name, Bent Street Garden, and its own account; it opens to the public through Open Gardens Victoria on 5 and 6 December 2026. Martina Gemmola took the photographs.
Tim Pilgrim Gardens
Tim Pilgrim Gardens is a small garden design practice in Central Victoria led by Tim Pilgrim, known for naturalistic cottage style gardens that blend the traditional and the modern, the edible and the ornamental. Pilgrim trained in horticulture and worked at the Diggers Club's Garden of St Erth and with Paul Bangay before starting his own practice.
