Bangalow
A garden across ten acres of former dairy farm at Bangalow, in the hills behind Byron Bay, designed, built and maintained by Fig Landscapes around a new house by Harley Graham Architects, built by MRB Constructions. The brief was a family garden the owners could keep themselves, planted tough enough for kicked balls and ridden bikes, and held low to keep the pastoral views open.
The maker's caption names the grass in this picture: Pennisetum Nafray, a fountain grass he mass planted around the pool, where it softens the glass fence. Locally sourced sandstone steppers and boulders line decomposed granite walkways through the rest of the garden.

Fig Landscapes was founded in 2015 by the landscape designer Grant James, who later moved the practice from Sydney to the Byron Bay hinterland; this garden was one of its first large scale jobs there.
