Alfacs
Alcanar, Spain
A working campsite on the Badia dels Alfacs, rebuilt piece by piece: each late autumn a window of a few months opens for building work, then the site trades again through summer. The architects call it a repertoire of strategies rather than a project with an end, laying stepped terraces of local stone and tinted concrete as lasting supports for the tents, pergolas and cabins that come and go.
The room in the picture is inside one of two new central buildings at the entrance, raised as tall shared halls under pitched tile roofs, one holding the reception and shop, the other the restaurant. The transformation took the City and Landscape prize at Spain's 2024 FAD awards, shared with one other project.
Bajet Giramé
A Barcelona studio founded in 2017 by Maria Giramé and Pau Bajet, who each spent four years at David Chipperfield Architects in London. Both teach architecture in Barcelona.
JAAS
A Barcelona practice founded in 1982, led by Josep M. Julià, Albert Clèries, Jordi Gorgues and Manuel Julià, working across architecture, heritage, urban design and landscape.
